The other 40% is used to administer the program and to provide assistance to children in developing countries. This is how we shared the money this year....

Sharing Our Blessings

Their world is so different than ours . . .

Imagine being a child and being alone.  Your parents have been taken by the AIDS pandemic and you are left with an aching heart and little hope for the future.  Imagine that you cant even dream of getting a basic education . . .

This is the plight of millions of children in sub-Saharan Africa in what is this centurys greatest challenge for the human race.

Edmonton Christian Schools is sharing some of their blessings by tithing from the Shop Now & Save program administered by the Society office.  Last week, a cheque for over $3,500 was given to support the educational efforts of the Keiskamma Trust...  This is a South African non profit organization  that provides health, art music and education initiatives in an integrated fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS.  They work to restore hope and health to every member of the community.

Two Edmonton Christian alumni, Doug and Annette Woudstra (nee Schouten), and their two children play key roles in this organization in the area around Hamburg, South Africa.  There is a desperate need, and Edmonton Christian Schools is blessed to share this small donation to support schools there.  We hope to stay in touch with these schools and even dream of the possibility of a trip there with students some day.

Sharing Our Blessings-Part 2

How does a young person break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness when living in Edmontons inner city?  For many, the answer to this question is a pretty simple one:  education.

Inner City High School offers Edmontons youth-at-risk and others an academic and arts-based alternative to the traditional school setting.  The majority of these youth do not live in stable housing, and almost all of them lack positive parental support or modeling. Inner City High School is an independent school accredited by Alberta Learning. The school was created at the request of youth in some inner city drama programs and it provides these young people with an alternative route to a high school diploma.  This alternative route is often the only suitable route for these youth and for some it becomes their pathway out of the poverty and hopelessness that they experience.

Recently, the Shop Now & Save program donated $3,500 to the Inner City Youth Development Association in support of Inner City High School and the amazing work that they do in Edmonton.  Check out their website at http://www.innercity.ca/ICHS.htm

Make use of the Shop Now & Save program through the Society Office.  In doing that, you will not only be supporting our schools, but you will be giving a chance to some kids, near and far, to become the people their Creator desires them to be!  What a privilege!
